2015 Summer Jubilate Tour

2015 Summer Jubilate Tour

We will begin on Saturday, June 6, at FBC Dalton, GA.  However, we will return to Louisville on Monday, June 8, for a concert here at Broadway Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m.

In addition, we need to host about 100 people for the evening. Therefore, we really need Broadway to extend the ministry of hospitality to this choir. If you can serve as a host home, provide a place to sleep, and transportation, please call Robert, Dave Watkins, or the church office.

Thank You Note

Thank You Note

Dear Broadway Family,

Thank you for all the prayers, cards, food and many other acts of kindness extended during the illness and passing of my father. The church, notably the Seekers and SALT classes, were a great source of inspiration and support to my dad in his final years. We are so thankful for our amazing church family.

Discernment Process

Discernment Process

Our congregational discernment process is moving forward. Members of our discernment team, along with others who were trained to help, met in small groups with over 75 youth and adults in the church. They talked with them about times when Broadway has had special meaning for them, and they talked with them about God’s hopes and dreams for Broadway’s future.  The thoughts were compiled and discussed by the discernment team, and now the team has put a second conversation time on the calendar after church on May 17th.  On the 17th (as a part of the potluck luncheon) we will drill down a bit further by asking those present some more specific questions that grew out of the initial feedback from the small groups.

Once we have had this second conversation, the team will work on distilling and prioritizing the feedback into a report about where the congregation seems to feel God is leading us.  On the basis of this, we will make specific plans and fix specific goals to help us move in that direction.

My thanks to the discernment team and to all those who are participating in the conversation!

Chris' Column - Staff Covenant

Chris' Column - Staff Covenant

Most people in the church don’t know that our ministerial team has some guiding statements we call our “Covenant.”  These are promises we make to one another in order to work efficiently and with integrity.  As my column this week, I thought I would share with you this document. We have a great team of ministers, and I’m proud to serve with them!

Life Line Screening

Life Line Screening

Broadway is pleased to offer a preventive health event by Life Line Screening on Friday, June 12 in Friendship Hall. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. These screenings are affordable, non-invasive and painless. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount).  All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete.  In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners.

Youth Volunteer Recap

Youth Volunteer Recap

On Friday, April 10, several members of Broadway's Youth volunteered part of their Spring Break to help out at WaterStep, a global clean water initiative based out of downtown Louisville. The main project the youth were involved in was making room for WaterStep's new indoor water pump school, which will be the only school of its kind in the world. The youth then went to Renaissance Fun Park for the rest of the afternoon. Thank you to the youth who attended, and especially to Aaron Weaver for helping to chaperone.

Esther Kim

Esther Kim

All of us at Broadway are sad to know that Sunday, June 7, will be Esther Kim’s final Sunday as our organist. Esther’s family will be moving to Orlando due to business opportunities for Esther’s husband and cultural opportunities for her children. There will be a reception following worship on June 7, to afford everyone a chance to say their personal thank you to a wonderful organist, and wonderful person.

Sermon Series Stories: Bob Johnson

Sermon Series Stories: Bob Johnson

What does faith have to say about life's final stage? About parenting? About being a young adult? How does faith help us deal with knowing we are drawing close to life's end? What is the role of a parent (or grandparent) in passing on faith to a child? What are the joys and challenges of faith for young adults?

The past Sundays we have been asking these questions in a series of sermons and stories.

Below is the story told by Bob Johnson.
