Summer Potluck & Bible Study: Revelation

Summer Potluck & Bible Study: Revelation

On June 30, our Outreach Committee will be hosting a community-wide potluck along with a guest teacher for the day. Hailing from Houston, Dr. Anna Bowden serves as a New Testament Professor at Louisville Seminary and is a graduate of Baylor University, Austin Presbyterian Seminary, and Brite Divinity School in Texas. Dr. Bowden is the author of Revelation and the Marble Economy of Roman Ephesus: A People’s History Approach. Dr. Bowden will be leading three sessions that Sunday morning on reading the Book of Revelation. While Revelation is easily the most misunderstood and misused book in scripture, Dr. Bowden’s approach seeks to locate the text in the context of the Early Church. What appears as the scariest of books is actually intended to be a comfort for Christ’s followers. This will be a great chance to learn about this mysterious, marvelous book of the Bible.

If you have ever wanted to convince your friends or family that Broadway is a different kind of Baptist church from what they might see or hear in the media, hearing Anna’s presentations on Revelation will be a great opportunity to do just that. That Sunday, she will lead a plenary Sunday School class at 10:00 in Friendship Hall (regular classes are still welcome to meet on their own if they would like). At 11:00, Dr. Bowden will preach in worship, and finally, she will offer a third lecture after the potluck. If you are a Bible nerd or a soulful seeker, you will not want to miss this!
