Chris Caldwell's Column
Two things have changed dramatically on the religious landscape during my career in the ministry.
First, denominational labels have largely become unimportant to people seeking a church. That’s not always true, but movement across denominational lines when joining churches has become the norm, not the exception.
Second, churches used to ...

First Courtyard Concert, April 19th
The first courtyard concert is scheduled for April 19 immediately following worship. We are very excited about the creative twist for this concert. We have enlisted some of our members here at Broadway, who are music educators within our city, to share their creative knowledge with our children and youth. This is intended to be a child and youth friendly event. So, we encourage families to attend. In addition, please feel free to invite friends within our community who might be students of our music educators. This will be a great treat for us and a good outreach opportunity as well. Cost of the child friendly meal is $5.00 per person. Make sure to make your reservations early!
Reflections at the Cross
Each week during Lent we have focused on one of the crosses placed on the window sills within our sanctuary. During Holy Week, please feel free to come by the church during office hours to spend time in reflection and prayer at each of these crosses. We encourage you to reflect on the guided prayer located at each window or even to take the cards home with you for the week.

Maundy Thursday Service

Creative Arts Camp
Yes! We have found a date in the shortened summer calendar for our Creative Arts Camp: Monday, July 27 -Thursday, July 30 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Because the response was so overwhelming last year, we have decided to limit our age of participation to school-age children: rising 1st graders to completed 5th graders. In addition, we will limit the number of those participating to 40 children. There will be a large group time of choir and several small group/individual offerings, such as; voice, piano, drama, art, culinary arts, etc… Please be on the lookout for registration details and other information and make plans to have your child/children participate. If you can serve as a volunteer during this camp, please contact Robert or Emily.

Thank You! From Chris and Emily Liles
Emily and I would like to thank everyone for caring for us and asking about baby Tessa. We are so grateful for all the kind words and excitement. We feel so fortunate and blessed that we get to raise Tessa at Broadway, surrounded by such a loving and nurturing community.
Grace and Peace,
Chris, Emily, and Tessa Liles.
Changes to the Newsletter
Please note that, starting in March, you will only receive two email updates per month, rather than the weekly and monthly newsletter. This will only affect those of you who receive the online newsletter. You can find church news updated daily here or on the church’s facebook page. We hope this will help you to keep up with all the latest church news in the most concise way possible!

May You Live In Christ
Beginning March 11, Rev. Robert “Robin” T. Jennings, the former rector at St. Francis in the Fields, will lead the Wednesday night adult programming in Friendship Hall. The four-week session will be based on his book, "May You Live in Christ!: Spiritual Growth Through The Vision of St. Peter." The book will be available at cost ($15.00). The schedule and further information is listed below.
March 11 May you Live in Christ
March 18 Receiving the Vision
March 25 Seeing the Vision
April 1 Living the Vision
With these simple, but powerful words, “May you live in Christ,” St. Peter cast a vision for the early Christians by inviting them to become participants in the divine nature of Jesus Christ. Yes, Peter the impulsive, conflicted, oftentimes stubborn disciple was transformed by the vision of life in Christ that helped him to grow, develop, mature and change right before the eyes of all who walked with him. Out of his human nature a far deeper spiritual nature was revealed because Peter was given a vision to live like never before. This same vision is made available to us right now. It is described in the early writings of Peter and it will provide a framework for our four-week study. During our time together we will discuss: how to receive a vision for living in Christ; where to look for and recognize this vision in our everyday life; and what will help us see our life in Christ grow into a new and more fulfilling life that is not simply mortal but really is eternal.
Chris's Discernment Column
This Lenten season we are beginning a discernment process. We will be considering God’s
calling for us as a church for the next few years. Primarily, we will be trying to discern how
to build on Broadway’s passions and strengths, but we will also give thought to how to do
this in a changed cultural landscape.
We are in the process of training volunteers to sit down with small groups of members to
pray and to hear people’s thoughts. If you would like to participate in one of these sessions,
please email Susan Reed (susanr@broadwaybaptist.org) so we can arrange a time for you
to meet with one of the small groups.
Once we have heard from all these groups, we will then have a second round of
conversations with congregation members. This second conversation will take things a step
further by reflecting on some of the things we learned in the first conversations, and then
considering more specific ideas that might grow out of what we have learned.
Over the summer, we will distill this all down to a report back to the congregation, and
based on that report, we will begin working through the church’s leadership structure to put
specific plans in place based on what we believe God is calling us to do.
Please be in prayer for this process and for those working with the Discernment Team:
Emily Allen Kirby (Chair), Noelle Bailey, Dick Brown, Ken Cox, Maryanne Elliott, Dawn
Stambaugh, Ryan Williams, Chris Caldwell, and Susan Reed.
Parent to Parent Mentoring Kickoff Dinner
Monday, March 16
6 - 8 p.m.
While raising children is a beautiful calling, it is often one of the most daunting tasks presented to our young families. The stress of caring for young lives can cause parents to feel isolated and anxious. Sometimes, it would just be nice to hear someone who has been there before say, “It’s going to be ok.”
With so many generations of parents represented at Broadway, the church is the perfect place to facilitate and nurture such relationships between young families and families with grown children. On March 16, we will kick off the Parent to Parent Mentoring Program with a potluck dinner in Friendship Hall for informal conversation and relationship building. Our hope is that the families will be able to support one another through conversations, meals, and friendship.
Anyone interested in the Parent to Parent Mentoring Program is welcome to attend this dinner. The only cost is to contribute a dish to the meal. Children are also welcome to be a part of the dinner! Contact Emily Holladay at emily@broadwaybaptist.org for more information.
Dare to Care
On the second Monday of every month, volunteers from Broadway go to Dare to Care to pack backpacks or sort food donations for families in Louisville. All ages (above 12 years old) are welcome to help! We leave the church parking lot at 8:45 a.m., work until noon and go have lunch together. Our next volunteer date is Monday, March 9.
