First Courtyard Concert, April 19th

First Courtyard Concert, April 19th

The first courtyard concert is scheduled for April 19 immediately following worship.  We are very excited about the creative twist for this concert.  We have enlisted some of our members here at Broadway, who are music educators within our city, to share their creative knowledge with our children and youth.  This is intended to be a child and youth friendly event.  So, we encourage families to attend.  In addition, please feel free to invite friends within our community who might be students of our music educators.  This will be a great treat for us and a good outreach opportunity as well.  Cost of the child friendly meal is $5.00 per person.  Make sure to make your reservations early!

Reflections at the Cross

Reflections at the Cross

Each week during Lent we have focused on one of the crosses placed on the window sills within our sanctuary. During Holy Week, please feel free to come by the church during office hours to spend time in reflection and prayer at each of these crosses.  We encourage you to reflect on the guided prayer located at each window or even to take the cards home with you for the week.

Creative Arts Camp

Creative Arts Camp

Yes!  We have found a date in the shortened summer calendar for our Creative Arts Camp:  Monday, July 27 -Thursday, July 30 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  Because the response was so overwhelming last year, we have decided to limit our age of participation to school-age children:  rising 1st graders to completed 5th graders.  In addition, we will limit the number of those participating to 40 children.  There will be a large group time of choir and several small group/individual offerings, such as; voice, piano, drama, art, culinary arts, etc…  Please be on the lookout for registration details and other information and make plans to have your child/children participate. If you can serve as a volunteer during this camp, please contact Robert or Emily.

Love in Action

Love in Action

If you are active in a charitable organization that could benefit from a month-long collection through our Love in Action Bins, please contact Betty Allen (502-895-0852) or Susan Reed in the church office. Among groups we will be helping this spring/summer are The West End School and Chenoweth Elementary. We would like to be of service to your group as well.

Chris's Discernment Column

Chris's Discernment Column

This Lenten season we are beginning a discernment process. We will be considering God’s
calling for us as a church for the next few years. Primarily, we will be trying to discern how
to build on Broadway’s passions and strengths, but we will also give thought to how to do
this in a changed cultural landscape.

We are in the process of training volunteers to sit down with small groups of members to
pray and to hear people’s thoughts.  If you would like to participate in one of these sessions,
please email Susan Reed (susanr@broadwaybaptist.org) so we can arrange a time for you
to meet with one of the small groups.

Once we have heard from all these groups, we will then have a second round of
conversations with congregation members.  This second conversation will take things a step
further by reflecting on some of the things we learned in the first conversations, and then
considering more specific ideas that might grow out of what we have learned.

Over the summer, we will distill this all down to a report back to the congregation, and
based on that report, we will begin working through the church’s leadership structure to put
specific plans in place based on what we believe God is calling us to do.

Please be in prayer for this process and for those working with the Discernment Team:
Emily Allen Kirby (Chair), Noelle Bailey, Dick Brown, Ken Cox, Maryanne Elliott, Dawn
Stambaugh, Ryan Williams, Chris Caldwell, and Susan Reed.

Lenten Worship

Lenten Worship

This Lenten season is for us a time of discernment as a congregation.  Where is God leading us?  Who is God calling us to be?  As you prepare for worship, and as we prepare to follow God, meditate on this prayer, written by Ken Cox, a member of our Discernment Team, a group of volunteers helping to guide our church through this process: Lord, grant us the confidence to be who we are, and the courage to be who we are not.
