Update from Ministry Alignment Ad Hoc Team

The Ministry Alignment Ad Hoc Team has been hard at work since early this year. We have had several meetings and have gathered feedback on tasks and responsibilities from committee chairs and from our staff. Now that we know the new budget figures for personnel going forward, we will soon pull our information together and make a final report.

As an interim report, we wanted you to know that:

  • Every model we are considering will challenge our wonderful base of volunteers at Broadway to become more robust. After spending hours examining the duties and responsibilities of our paid staff, especially in the leaner personnel budget we now have, we do not see a way to achieve our mission without working "smarter" by making greater use of volunteers.

  • At every turn, we have kept before ourselves Broadway's mission priorities and how best to achieve them through the efforts of all our staff and all of the congregation.

  • The Co-Pastor model was ruled out early on by our team, given that the congregational feedback last year indicated there was not the strong consensus needed to go to such a model. We certainly are mindful, however, of the issues raised by the proposal, namely mission alignment and the sustainability of the workload in some areas. We are trying our best to come up with creative ways to address these challenges.

  • Our staff members have been very helpful and transparent with us. We appreciate their willingness to help us understand all they do so that we can all work in the direction of making our ministries even more effective!
