Celebrating the Spirit of Sisterhood at Women's Retreat

Our 18th annual Women’s Retreat wrapped up on Saturday, November 11, and by all accounts, this year’s weekend of faith was the best ever!

Gathering at St. Meinrad Archabbey in Spencer County, Ind., 49 of Broadway’s women, including weeks old Eleanor Whitehead, enjoyed an overnight excursion that included prayer, fellowship, friendship, and learning.

“I had such a great time bonding with these ladies,” Elaine Baker beamed. “Our roundtable discussions led me to learn and understand more about people I’ve known for years!”

This year’s retreat was led by Rev. Sharon Felton, Minister to Students at Faith Baptist Church in Georgetown, Ky. Many found inspiration and encouragement from her message, centering around the theme of “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory.”

“What an experience we had; seeing the monks walking around, at meals, hearing them in the chapel. But the  women from Broadway had our own moving experience.” Donna Williams said. “From discussing hope and Christ’s glory in us to giving and receiving communion between friends, to the final prayer, with our eyes open and looking at each other. It all couldn’t have been any better.”

“We closed by having communion together,” Baker said. “It was such a powerful moment of understanding how we’re all connected and can serve each other. It was an experience I’ll never forget!”

St. Meinrad Archabbey, a Benedictine Monastery, was founded by monks from Einsiedeln Abbey in Switzerland on March 21, 1864. Today, it is home to nearly a hundred monks and welcomes visitors for daily prayer, retreats, and art and architectural tours of their community.

Special thanks to all of our attendees, Rev. Sharon Felton, and our gracious hosts at St. Meinrad Archabbey. Until next year!
