Missions
Broadway has a long tradition of involvement in mission activities. We have over 200 people actively involved in “hands on” mission projects throughout the year. These projects are local, statewide and international in scope. Our recently completed major mission projects include participation in Kentucky Baptist Fellowship’s Extreme Build.
We fund our mission projects through our operating budget, dedicated donations and fund raisers. Other recent and ongoing mission projects include:
Workship
Part of our Wednesday night fellowship activities each summer, Workship is a multigenerational program with service opportunities for all age levels and abilities. In the past year, our Workship experiences have included visits and hands-on mission activities at Edge Outreach Ministries, Family Scholar House, Americana Community Center and Choices, Inc.
Support of Edge Outreach
Edge Outreach Ministries in Louisville helps bring clean water to Haiti and other developing countries. In summer 2010, through special appeal from our ministers, our church raised over $21,000 through donations and our annual Missions Yard Sale to benefit Edge Outreach.
Habitat for Humanity
Area Baptist congregations annually build a house for Habitat for Humanity. Several Broadway members participated this summer in the 18th Habitat house built by Baptist congregations. For more information about Habitat for Humanity, visit www.habitat.org.
Extreme Build
For the past several years, Broadway has participated in the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship’s Extreme Build in McCreary County, KY. Volunteers from across Kentucky come together to build a house in just one week for a family in need.
Dare to Care Backpack Buddies
The Lydia Class, one of Broadway’s Sunday School classes, regularly visits Dare to Care to pack bags of weekend food for over 1,600 needy children in our community. This is just one of many small mission projects undertaken by our Sunday School classes.
Passport Youth Camp
Our youth annually participate in Passport Youth Camp where they perform a variety of mission projects. Locations vary each year. In addition to the regular youth and children's Passport Camps, in 2010, five of our youth attended PassportKenya. They spent time with Kenyan youth learning more about the country and its culture, and working at Integrated Child Development Centers which are sponsored by Aprica Exchange. For more information about Passport, contact Susan Reed.
Children’s Hands-on Missions
In September 2010, our children in third through fifth grades participated in a six-week small group focused on hands-on missions designed to expand their world view. They began with a project that helped people in their own homes and advanced to missions projects that help others throughout the world. For more information, contact Becky Caswell-Speight .
Jefferson Street Chapel at Liberty
Many of our Sunday School classes, including young adults and youth, participate throughout the year purchasing, preparing and serving lunch at Jefferson Street Chapel at Liberty.
