A Guided Prayer from the Psalms
March 11, 2007
As we pray, I will read selections from the psalms,
and then guide you in your prayers.
Psalm 42: 1 - 2
As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
Prayerfully consider your need for God.
The burdens of your soul
The worries of your mind
The longings of your heart
Psalm 61: 1 - 5
Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the foe.
I long to dwell in your tent forever
and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
Selah.
For you have heard my vows, O God;
you have given me the heritage of those
who fear your name.
Now give thought to God’s care for you.
Psalm 32: 4 - 5
For day and night
your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the LORD.”
Now offer to God your sin.
The places you have stumbled
The ways you have fallen short
Psalm 103: 12
As far as the east is from the west,
so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.
Now receive and give thanks for the gift of God’s grace.
Psalm 107: 4 – 5
They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way;
they found no city to dwell in.
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
Now pray for the needs of others.
For those who walk in a solitary way,
grieving the loss of someone or something dear.
For refugees around the world, those “with no city to dwell in.”
Psalm 143: 10
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God.
Finally, consider where it is God is leading you when you leave this place.
Consider God’s calling for you.
