Music Ministries
Noel Weaver,
Minister of Music
The Music Ministry of Broadway Baptist Church is one of high quality
and diversity. This ministry contributes to the life of the church
by providing music for the worship services and opportunities for service
and growth.
Adult Choir
Broadway's Adult Choir is primarily responsible for providing a call
to worship, anthems and responses in the Sunday worship service.
Several times each year, the Adult Choir presents major works with
guest instrumentalists from the Louisville Orchestra.
Membership in the Adult Choir is open to everyone. No auditions are
required.
Broadway Choral Ensemble
The Broadway Choral Ensemble is composed of Youth in the 6th - 12th
grade and adults. The Choir is challenged to perform on a professional
level and works with contemporary as well as traditional Christian music.
The Broadway Choral Ensemble typically tours within neighboring states
performing a contemporary Christian musical in the spring.
Children's Choirs
Broadway's Children's choirs are formed annually beginning with school
terms, based on the level of interest among the various age groups. Children's
choirs perform several times throughout the year during worship.
Music Friends
Pre-school children 3 and 4 years old enjoy the Music Friends Choir.
The overall musical goal for Music Friends is to promote a love and
interest in music. Preschoolers generally are better able to sing alone
than with others.
In Music Friends, the children learn musical skills including beat,
pitch and volume, They are taught listening skills and learn the difference
between speaking and singing.
The Director uses games and movement such as "Echo Me" and "Let's
Pretend" to encourage participation and help making singing instructional
and fun!
Music Makers
The Music Makers choir is designed for 2nd and 3rd grade children.
The skills learned in Broadway's preschool choir, Music Friends, are
reinforced and extended in Music Makers.
A strong focus of Music Makers is singing for fun. The choir performs
in worship at least four times a year, making this one of their first
experiences in being worship leaders. The Director focuses on helping
the children develop an understanding of lyrics explaining God, Jesus,
Church and Friendship.
In Music Makers, music instruction expands to include teaching children
note values, rhythmic patterns and music signatures (treble clef, bass
clef, etc.) Complex listening skills are taught as children learn harmony
and learn to manage their voices to achieve various tones.
An important benefit of participation in Music Makers choir is the
cooperative learning and large group participation of a choir rehearsal
structure.
Young Musicians
As children develop, they are capable of more sophisticated singing.
In Young Musicians choir, the children build on the skills developed
in prior choir experiences and continue to work on developing a focused
singing tone. Proper articulation, breathing and posture are emphasized.
Young Musicians develop more advanced rhythm skills and recognize
note values and tempo. They practice singing two and three part harmony.
They develop an understanding of the importance of watching the director
while performing.
The director teaches appreciation of great church hymns and the children's
role as worship leaders to teach Christian truths while performing.
The Young Musicians choir performs in worship at least four times a
year.
Handbell Choirs
Broadway offers Handbell Choirs for several ages. These choirs are formed
annually beginning with school terms, based on the level of interest
among the various age groups. They perform several times throughout the
year during worship.

musical life of the congregation. It has included guest instrumentalists
for worship services, special concerts and recitals by well-known artists,
and concerts by the Louisville
