Music in Worship

Broadway’s Music Ministry seeks to enhance our congregation’s worship experience through music that is instructive and has a high degree of reverence for God. The choirs sing anthems which support the sermon message with music ranging from classical, religious music to traditional hymn arrangements, and from gospel songs to spirituals.

Adult Choir

Broadway's Adult Choir is primarily responsible for providing a call to worship, anthems and responses in the Sunday worship service.  Several times each year, the Adult Choir presents major classical works accompanied by professional instrumentalists.  Membership in the Adult Choir is open to everyone. No auditions are required.

Broadway is blessed with the support of Mrs. Robert L Hook, Sr. and the V. V. Cooke Foundation in presenting performances by guest instrumentalists for worship services, special concerts and recitals by well-known artists.  This support significantly enhances the musical life of the congregation.
Practice: Wednesdays, 7 p.m.

Youth Choir

Broadway’s Youth Choir includes singers in the 6th - 12th grade.  The choir learns contemporary as well as traditional Christian music.

Handbell Choirs

Broadway offers Handbell Choirs for children, youth and adults.  They perform several times throughout the year during worship.
Practice: Wednesdays; 4:45 p.m. youth, 6 p.m. adult

Children's Choirs

Broadway's Children's choirs are formed annually beginning with school terms, based on the level of interest among the various age groups. Children's choirs perform several times throughout the year during worship.

Our Children's choirs currently include Music Friends (for 3- and 4-year olds) and Children's Choir (including children in grades K – 5.)

In Music Friends, the children learn musical skills including beat, pitch and volume.  They are taught listening skills and learn the difference between speaking and singing.  A strong focus of Music Friends is singing for fun.  The Director focuses on helping the children develop an understanding of lyrics explaining God, Jesus, Church and Friendship.

In the Children’s Choir, singers work on developing a focused singing tone.  Proper articulation, breathing and posture are emphasized.  They also learn rhythm skills and recognize note values and tempo.  They practice singing parts in harmony and develop an understanding of the importance of watching the director while performing.  Appreciation of great church hymns is emphasized.
Practice: Wednesdays, 6:10 p.m.
