Childrens' Ministries FAQ

1. Where do I take my child?

This depends on the activity and age of the child.

Birth through Age two

On Sunday mornings, children are dropped off in their classroom. You will be asked for any special care instructions for your child. We will give you a pager in order to reach you if necessary while your child is with us.

Ages three through five
For Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., children should be taken to the Children’s Suite for Arise (hotlink to Arise on Children’s Ministry Home Page), a short opening assembly. The children will then break into their Sunday School classrooms for a time of learning the day’s Bible study. Following Sunday school preschoolers will be taken to worship with a member of the preschool worship team.

For the 11:00 a.m. worship service, preschoolers can be dropped off in the preschool wing. You will be asked for any special care instructions for your child. We will give you a pager in order to reach you if necessary while your child is with us.

Ages K – 3rd grade
For Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., children should be taken to the Children’s Suite for Arise (hotlink to Arise on Children’s Ministry Home Page), a short opening assembly. The children will then go to their Sunday School classrooms for a time of learning the day’s Bible study.

For the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children attend the first portion of the worship service. They can sit with their parents or on the second pew with a Children’s Worship volunteer. During one of the early hymns, the children leave the worship service for a children’s worship. The children’s worship is an age-appropriate sermon based on the scriptures that they read at home throughout the week, re-read in Arise, and discuss in Sunday School. On Communion Sundays, there is no children’s worship and the children stay in the 11:00 a.m. worship service with their parents.

Ages 4th and 5th grade

For the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children attend the worship service with their parents.

2. My child has separation issues. I am afraid to leave them crying with you. What should I do?

Our teachers have been teaching Sunday School for many years and know many ways to calm a child. Typically, children with separation issues will cry for a few minutes when entering a new setting. Once they realize that they are safe and feel loved, they usually calm down. It is best to let us know if you think that your child might have trouble. If we need to reach you, we will contact you through our pager system. The best way to get a child comfortable with a new setting is to keep bringing them back.

3. Do you have Criminal Background checks on your teachers?

Yes, the Church has a child protection policy that requires all adults working with minors to have criminal background checks. On top of having a criminal background check for all of our workers, we require that there be two adults in every room where children are present. We believe that it is very important in teaching the love of Christ to children to make sure that every child that enters the doors feels safe and cared for.

4. Do you ever have Parent/Child Dedications?

Yes, we hold Parent/Child Dedications throughout the year. This is an important time when parents of babies come before the church and God to dedicate themselves to raising their child(ren) in a Christian atmosphere and home. It is also a time when we as a church dedicate ourselves to becoming involved in the Christian upbringing of these new little ones. The scheduling of each dedication is a decision of each specific family. If you have additional questions on this, please contact Becky Caswell-Speight.
