Adult Ministries

Reba Cobb, Minister of Adult Education and Discipleship

Habitat for Humanity

Broadway Baptist Church has led a group of Baptist Churches in building 10 Habitat for Humanity Houses over the last 8 years. Our goal is to complete 20 houses. This ministry has helped 10 families and 25 children find homes and happiness in downtown Louisville. If you would like to be a part of this ministry contact the church office (502.895.2459 ) or e-mail us for more information.

Heart to Hands Knitters

Hearts to Hands Knitters is an ecumenical group started by Broadway's women to share God's love by donating their efforts to comfort another person in need. Hearts to Hands includes more than 45 women from Louisville and other cities who are beginner to expert knitters, and teenagers to senior adults, who knit shawls for patients in the pediatric oncology unit at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville.

To date, Hearts to Hands has made and donated more than 100 shawls to individuals fighting cancer. The completed shawls are all different shapes and sizes and are as unique as the individuals who made them. The group welcomes all who want to learn or can already knit, crochet or quilt!

Just Older Youth

Broadway's youngest set--those who are Just Older Youth (JOY) plans fellowship and mission events. Most events are open to the entire Broadway membership. The Church-wide Tennis Night is one example of this on-going adult ministry.

Ladies Nice Friendly Lunch (LNFL)

Broadway women and visitors meet for a "nice friendly lunch", dutch treat, on a monthly basis to enjoy getting to know each other. The lunches are held on the first Friday of each month, at the same time and the same place, September through May.

Please join us at 11:45 a.m. at McAllister's Deli, 2400 Lime Kiln Lane in the Glenview Points Shopping Center. All are welcome!

Life After Fifty

There is Life After Fifty (LAF) at Broadway! The Senior Adult Committee plans a variety of activities for adults over age 50. Join us and LAF about life, all in His praise!

Our LAF Committee sponsors missions, hosts monthly lunch and learn events and plans group travel events. LAF is a wonderful way to fellowship with Broadway members and support missions.

Past luncheons have addressed the following issues:

  • Protecting Medicare and Medicaid

  • Health and Wellness Educational

  • Alzheimer's - How Do We Cope With It?

Men of Broadway

The Men of Broadway typically meet on the third Saturday of the month for breakfast at 8:00 am in Broadway's Friendship Hall. The monthly programs feature local speakers addressing community-wide issues and areas of interest.

Past programs have included an in-depth look at the Lewis and Clark connections in Louisville, the City/County government merger and the desegregation of the Jefferson County Public Schools. Local mission projects are also announced and discussed. All men who are members of or have attended Broadway are encouraged to participate!

The Menders

Adjusting to life without a partner with whom you have shared many years provides significant challenges and adjustments. Participants in this group share their insights and experiences to help the person facing this life changing dimension. This group meets the fourth Monday of each month at noon.

Mission Trips

Missions Committee

Broadway's Missions Committee is responsible for the outside missions of the church. Our goal is to make one adult mission trip a year.
Currently, Broadway focuses its mission work with Habitat for Humanity, both the international and local efforts, the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

In 2004, Broadway initiated an effort to increase hands-on missions by our adult members. We have budgeted to financially support adults interested in supporting hand-on missions at home and throughout the world. This year we have sent mission teams to:

  • Participate in the construction of a facility for homeless children, the Village of Hope, in Kiev, Ukraine
  • Build homes for low income families in Mexico
  • Support the development of a Baptist church in Jackson, Kentucky
  • Raise money and canned goods through the Hunger Walk in Louisville, Kentucky
  • Contribute financial support for construction of drinking water wells in Africa

Read the Bible Through in One Year

Reading the Bible on a daily basis is a rich and rewarding experience. The Bible is a library of inspiring, helpful, practical and enjoyable stories. You will find the stories of the world's beginning, love, history, and hundreds of poems and songs that tell the story of God's love and almighty power.

Reading the Bible through is a true accomplishment. You will need to:

May God bless you as you read his Word!

St. Matthews Area Community Ministries

St. Matthews Area Community Ministries (St. MAMs) provides a variety of human services to residents of the St. Mathews neighborhood. Broadway is a strong partner in funding and providing volunteers to support St MAMs programs.

Twenty Somethings / Young Career

Young adults making career decisions often need an ear to help them as they face important crossroads. This group provides a resource to help the individual identify factors to be considered in making career choices. The group meets every other Thursday at 7 p.m.

Women's Circles

Broadway has an active and diverse Women's ministry encouraged through various Women's Circles. Each circle determines their mission work based on the identified needs of the community. The circles typically meet in small groups twice a month. A general meeting of all circle members is held on the third Tuesday of the month. All women are encouraged to participate!

Yarn Spinners

Keeping warm in winter is a challenge for children in parts of our state where poverty abounds. This group helps address this need by knitting sweaters for children who face the cold winter without adequate warm clothing. The group meets the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

"...go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
